While Clichés Explained might appeal more to the writers in the audience (that's probably most of you), my new series Picture Book Day is for anyone: readers, writers, parents, teachers, etc. As a kindergarten assistant, I'm discovering charming picture books by the dozen, so I thought I'd start a series to share my findings.
Today's feature, Personal Space Camp by Julia Cook, illustrated by Carrie Hartman

This book is about a boy named Louis who really, really loves space. When his principal invites him to attend "personal space camp", he thinks it's all about planets and rocketships and the moon. But... it's not. As you probably figured.
Personal Space Camp is so clever! The author tied in Louis's vision of space camp with real lessons about personal space (being inside your personal bubble is like your space ship, for instance.) It's the kind of book I wish I wrote: a play on words, but also witty and educational. Recommended for kids and adults -- even those who don't need to attend personal space camp!

How often do you read picture books? Discover any good children's books recently? Do you know of any other books that tie in two subjects with a clever pun (like "personal space" and "space camp")?
