Now, I realize that some of you may not be into picture books, especially if you don't have kids or don't teach. But if you're a writer or an artist of any kind, and you're putting yourself in a position where you might face rejection, I think you'll still appreciate this book.
Today's book is...

Horace and Morris Join the Chorus (But What About Dolores?) by James Howe, illustrated by Amy Walrod
This charming story is about three best friends, Horace, Morris and Dolores. (They're cute mice, which makes me like them even more.) They all love to sing. Horace sings the higher notes, Morris sings the lower notes, and Dolores sings "notes no one has ever heard before."
The three friends decide to audition for the chorus. Horace and Morris get in... but not Dolores. (See what I mean about rejection?) Dolores is obviously hurt, but she's still determined to convince Moustro Provolone (love that name) to let her in the chorus. What she ends up doing is creative and brave, and I think it's a fantastic reminder for all aspiring artists to never give up.
Besides, as a former "choir geek", I can't help but love a story based around music activities instead of sports, for a change.

What would you do if you were in Dolores's situation, desperate to change the director's mind and let you in the chorus? What kinds of activities were you involved in when you were in school? (Or currently, if you're still in school?)
