There's No Place Like the Library

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I'm moving across the country. While I'm very excited and ready to move on, there are some things I'll miss about where I live now. One of those things is, of course, my town's library.

It's the place I always go when I need a change of scenery. I have a certain table where I regularly sit and do my work, and after a few hours, I pack up my stuff and wander through the juvenile fiction section. Sometimes, I'll grab a middle grade book and settle in a nearby chair for an hour. Other times, I'll just check out a stack of novels and read them over the course of a week.

The feel of the library is pleasant, too. There are lots of windows that bring in just the right amount of light. People are friendly (but quiet enough that they don't distract me.) It's comfortable.

These are all things I'll likely be able to experience in my next town, though I'll miss the charm and familiarity of this one at first. But the last time we moved, I was bummed about leaving that library behind. (It was a very spacious one with a winding staircase in the center of the room!) Just like last time, I'll move on and make my new library my new hangout.

The more I think about it, the more I can't wait to see what the next one is like!

So tell me, what are your libraries like? Do you have a routine that you follow when you go to the library, or do you do something different every time?

When we moved two years ago, I was sad to be leaving our library - mainly because it had such a huge selection of books (bonus of living in a big city). Now I have to wait much longer to get the books I want, but, smaller libraries are nice too. Their kids programs and reading times are smaller and I've gotten to know the librarians. Libraries are awesome places :)

I've always lived in the one city, so my favourite library hasn't changed. I love the light in mine as well, although I'd love that staircase!

There's a restaurant/café close to my place where the walls are covered with bookshelves. You can pick any book you like and read it while enjoying a drink or a meal. The decoration is super cozy too. It's also a great place to write.

That is the first place I always check out whenever I move - the library! The one in my town is beautiful, but it does get a little bit loud. Luckily there's a "quiet room" that I can use when I need to work, but usually I'm the kind of person who works best at home anyway.

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who's absurdly attached to my library! Mine is wonderful, with lots of open space, huge windows opening out onto some beautiful scenery, and plenty of spots to sit and work. They're also really, really good about ordering in any books I request or suggest, which is key. Good luck finding a new library to love!

I love our local library. I love how I feel at home there and the ladies in the children's section know me well and are always ready to help if I need it. I use it for research, for picking out books for my children, and checking out books to read to my preschool class. I also hosted my first book launch there and they were amazing to me!
